In 2001, the Colorado Governor's Council established a partnership with the Cherry Creek Sneak, the country's largest five-mile race, to promote physical activity among young people. Through this partnership, we further our mission to reduce childhood obesity in Colorado.
Long regarded as the kick-off to the running season, the Cherry Sneak is one of Denver's most prestigious fitness events and a precursor for participants to a summer of active lifestyle activities. The Sneak provides something for all members of your family - even your four legged friends! Participants have seven events from which to choose, including two events specifically for kids. The Sneak for Kids is a free half-mile, non-competitive event open to children in Grade 5 or younger. The one-mile Sneak Sprint for Students is a friendly competition for students in Grades 6-10. Students are timed and scored in this event enabling them to measure their fitness against the guidelines established by the President's Council for Physical Fitness. The Council also awards The Governor's Cup to the school that recruits the most participants every year. Many side events and kiosks make the Sneak a spectator-friendly event - no wonder that it attracts some 30,000 people every year. Visit the Official Cherry Creek Sneak website at www.cherrycreeksneak.com for more information on the 25th anniversary event. This year's Cherry Creek Sneak Team Kit is available.
